PS – Our apologies for the late email this morning. Our understanding was that our server was down for maintenance.
In today’s interview, Glenn Hogue eloquently describes how his meditation practice has changed over the 22 years, from “bullet train racing thoughts” to feeling a benevolent love that just gets “bigger.”Glenn talks a lot about putting space between our thoughts, and how that leaves plenty of room for “not knowing.” As we start to let go of the surface mind, the part of us that always wants to “know”, we leave room for awe and wonder, and that is when we start to suspect there is a loving intelligence that connects us all. We begin to not just feel love..but be love, and we sense that we are part of something larger.I often refer to myself a “tenderizer.” My work is to tenderize people, to poke holes in their rigid thought structures so that they finally allow their natural well-being to emerge. When well-being rises, it rises with such force, we just know it was there all along! It is because I trust this process implicitly that I work so hard to bring this information to as many people as possible.I think Glenn does a great job at describing this process, and I would recommend listening to his 1:39 minute poem to help you set the tone to put some space between your experiences and your thoughts before you begin the meditation. This interview was pre-recorded, so the NEXT Spiritual Conversations for Men’s group at Numinous isWednesday February 3, at 7:00 PM at the Unity Church of Albany.Donations help us meet expenses to offer this work. If you would like to donate, please click on the donate button or send donations to: Numinous c/o Bethany Gonyea (be sure to include this) at PO 1322, Clifton Park, NY 12065. Interview.

Challenging Our Agreements, and How They Shape UsBryce Pullano, IT SpecialistWednesday January 27 at 7:00 PMOne of the four agreements in the wildly successful book “The Four Agreements” by Don Miquel Ruiz, is “Don’t make assumptions.”If we all took a moment to pause and consider how many assumptions we make in life, and how much these assumptions shape our destiny, we may become awestruck by their significance. These realizations have the potential to be so profound, they may inspire us to make lasting change in our behavior, changes that can effect the entire trajectory of our lives. In this talk, Bryce Pullano will ask us to challenge our most basic social contracts, and examine how much we assume things that simply are not be true at all. He will help us expose these flimsy mirages for what they are, which can help us find the truth that we need to experience real-world growth. These non-truths are best eliminated, so that we can proceed confidently in life with clear unwavering vision that sustains us in times of darkness. Come to this talk ready to challenge all areas of your life, and to mine new insights for positive change.Spiritual Conversations For MenFacilitated by Glenn Hogue & Tim Moon, MA – CASACWednesday February 3 at 7:00 PMMost spiritual programs are predominantly attended by women, which often causes women’s issues to be the focus of such programming. However, at NUMINOUS, we wanted to provide new programs that would specifically support Men’s spiritual discoveries as they do the significant work of pioneering how to blend ancient spiritual teachings with contemporary culture’s expectations of masculinity. This is critically important work, as we seem to be in a time in history when all sorts of established paradigms are falling. The rugged individualism of the late 20th century is being challenged on all levels, especially in relationships. The traditional roles between male and female are also being blurred as well. How do we maintain the integrity of our yang (masculine) energy while assimilating the gentler aspects of spirituality and still be effective in this world? How do we learn how to connect, while maintaining our individual authenticity and truth? Many of us have learned that we don’t need to do life alone, but we are unsure of how to skillfully include input from Spirit, women, and other men, without loosing connection with ourselves.Learning how to skillfully partner, listen, and still assert our truth seems to be a huge piece of the mission of our generation of men. These Spiritual Conversations For Men will give us an opportunity to gain answers to the some of the most distracting questions of our lives. In a quiet environment, we can safely discuss what matters to us most, and obtain invaluable insights from other men who have grappled with the same questions. Through this exchange, we learn that we don’t have to do “life alone.” Also, we learn how good it feels to be supported and to provide the same meaningful support for others. These discussions offer us clarity and direction as we learn to connect, and yet still hold individual balance. We are extremely fortunate to have Tim Moon, Counselor, and Fo Castle Owner/Operator Glenn Hogue facilitate these discussions. These two have over 55 years of combined spiritual understandings to chart this prosperous territory.Prosperity – Living a Life You Love LivingDr. Karin ReinholdWednesday February 10 at 7:00 PMCan you imagine a life full of purpose and passion that allows you to naturally enrich the lives of others around you and yourself?Do you wake up each morning feeling energized and ready to start your day?Do you enjoy higher levels of vibrant health, deep love, financial abundance, and time freedom?Do you experience the confidence that you can accomplish anything that you want? There are predictable, repeatable, spiritual and scientific method for turning dreams into reality. I first learned of these steps from Mary Morrissey – a world renowned author and coach – and her program “Dream Building”We’ll review the 10 keys of the manifestation process, and how these are rooted in spiritual principles. The W/Holeness Continuum: Moving from ‘Having a Hole to Fill’ to ‘Being Whole and Feeling Full’Tim MoonWednesday February 17 at 7:00 PMUnity Church of AlbanyWhat are the conditions in our lives and in our thoughts about our lives that leave us feeling empty, lonely and in search of ways to fill the Hole? There are an endless number of ways we attempt to fill the Hole; money, relationships, alcohol and substances, sex, new clothes, new cars, busy-ness, television, food…the list goes on. Deep down we all know that we are supposed to feel good, which is the root of all substance abuse issues. As we progress on the spiritual path, we learn that we need less and less of these external things, because we as we feel more spiritually whole, we learn to bask in the sweet satisfaction of that wholeness. We don’t just know this intellectually, we feel this on a profound level as the truth of our whole being. This workshop will explore paradigm shifting ideas from past and present spiritual teachings and our current understanding of the science related to happiness, mindfulness, and empathy to assist us in moving from Holeness to Wholeness (without necessarily having to change our circumstances!!! Wow!).Your Healing StoryVicki HartWednesday February 24 at 7:00 PMUnity Church of AlbanyStories and myths have a way of reaching deep into the hidden places within us. Reoccurring themes from different times and places help us to know that we are not alone in our experiences. In this talk, we will discuss ”Warming the Stone Child” and other stories about abandonment and the unmothered child. Based on the work of Jungian psychologist Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Phd.Learn through story how the psychology of abandonment in childhood affects us in later life. Uncover the special gifts and powers of the unmothered child. In this talk, we can discern what you can learn from your favorite childhood fairytale, and learn that we a personal fairy tale story of our own.Hearing Only One Voice – The Voice of WisdomBethany Gonyea, Founder Albany Peace ProjectWednesday March 2 at 7:00 PMUnity Church of AlbanyDo you ever wonder about the origin of that critical voice in your head?Do you ever become curious about your internal dialogue….even why we have an internal dialogue? (who exactly are we talking to???)Well, neuroscientists at Yale have discovered some startling facts about the brain regions activated while we are experiencing this internal dialogue. The set of brain regions responsible for this internal voices is now referred to as the default mode network. It is most commonly shown to be active when a person is not focused on the outside world and the brain is at a wakeful rest, such as during daydreaming and mind-wandering. Researchers have determined that this default mode network is responsible for us ruminating about four general areas, when we are 1) thinking about others (what they think of us), 2) thinking about ourselves (how we are doing), 3) remembering (processing) the past, and 4) planning (worrying) for the future. This internal dialogue is vastly responsible for much of our mental health, either good or bad.The good news is that not only are there cognitive strategies to help cope with the voice, but that skillful meditation actually silences it! Learn how to lower the volume of the critical voice, and hear only the voice of wisdom.Get Inspired All year Long!If you would like to be notified of Numinous talks that offer similar content, Please enter your email to the right of this link where it says “Get Inspired!” www.NuminousOnline.comHelp us get to 3,300 Likes on Facebook! You will see below that we are collaborating with amazing individuals. There is an event for almost everyone here this month, and two events will be held in beautiful outdoor places. Please scroll all the way down…all of these events support our efforts to encourage intentions for peace research. Living The Discipline of Conscious Intentionality Bethany Gonyea, NUMINOUS founder Wednesday June 1, at 7:00 PM Unity Church of Albany
More and more research is documenting that our mental intentions have real world impact. As we come to grasp the enormous implications of this research, we learn how important it becomes that we create through conscious intention rather than unconscious default. With Intention…everything counts…so we need to be brutally honest with ourselves about what intentions we are emitting at all times. We also need be aware when we are going “unconscious.” Conscious Intention only works when we are inputting the same signal into the field repeatedly, and we don’t fall asleep at the wheel.
To skillfully sculpt our lives through intention, we need to learn the discipline of keeping our desires alive while facing life’s inevitable challenges. We will discuss the concept that maintaining conscious intentions is similar to living from the peaceful eye of a storm. We may see all softs of things flying in the wind but learn not to attach to them and fly away ourselves. We will also discuss what is our role in creating our lives and how to interface skillfully with the Loving Intelligence that connects us all, to sculpt a lives of the deepest meaning and engagement.

Shamans are men and women who heal themselves an train others to cultivate their power and abilities to heal by learning to shift into “second attention” First attention includes all of the ordinary information we experience through our five senses every day. However, Shamans also access information form “Second Attention”, which means they sense the additional energy and information flowing around the filters of our five senses. A power innate to all of us. “Listen to your heart” ” Trust your gut feeling” etc.
When we train to widen our perceptual fields we can access this wealth of information along with a quite confidence and inner peace. Through the tools you will learn you will accelerate your healing and find both courage and the capacity to make the changes your heart and higher self wants you to make!
By training our minds to sense and become aware of this subtle information the way shamans do, we gain access to a whole new breadth of information that can be highly advantageous to our path. We can even start to make changes without “white knuckling” them, because we have accelerated accessing the crisp clarity required for sudden change. As we learn how to access this occluded information we gain great wisdom and discernment, and our steps become more sure.
In this class, we are happy to invite back by popular demand, Ray Crist, founder of the Jaguar Path School of Yoga and Shamanism. Ray will be offering us some practical Shamanic tools and understandings He will share with us how Shamanic training can help westerners to: – Learn tools that will help heal past traumas – develop an abiding sense of personal power, integrity and authenticity – understand your place and purpose in life – develop innate psychic impressions (second attention) and understand them as a spiritual resource – deepen creative inspiration and expression – strengthen established regular spiritual practices – deepen your understanding of your personal relationships with nature, people, and living environments – experience deep mystical states that can elevate and stabilize you morally, spiritually and emotionally
This fall, Ray will be opening a chapter of his Jaguar Path Yoga School through NUMINOUS this fall, so we will be offering similar classes so that people can get a good experience of his work, and learn whether they would like to expand their training through the comprehensive 9 month program .
Ray will be offering us some practical Shamanic tools and understandings He will share with us how Shamanic training can help westerners to:
– Learn tools that will help heal past traumas
– develop an abiding sense of personal power, integrity and authenticity
– understand your place and purpose in life
– develop innate psychic impressions (second attention) and understand them as a spiritual resource
– deepen creative inspiration and expression
– strengthen established regular spiritual practices
– deepen your understanding of your personal relationships with nature, people, and living environments
– experience deep mystical states that can elevate and stabilize you morally, spiritually and emotionally
This fall, Ray will be opening a chapter of his Jaguar Path Yoga School through NUMINOUS this fall, so we will be offering similar classes so that people can get a good experience of his work, and learn whether they would like to expand their training through the comprehensive 9 month program . Ray is a grounded teacher, who loves to combine contemporary life with established primordial wisdom practices to help us live lives of greater meaning, purpose, ease and majestic wonder.
In case of rain, we will be working in a large space indoors…bring your curiosity and a healthy desire to perceive things in your life differently!

Help is needed to raise money for our new initiative Mindfulness As A Solution to Violence, where youth learn both alternatives to violence practices and also biofeedback self regulation skills that they can learn to reliably call upon to calm their nervous systems during the chaos of conflict. We feel that this is where we can make the greatest difference toward peace in the Albany, NY area. Businesses may want to support this initiative, because businesses often suffer the consequences of youth violence. Mindfulness As A Solution To Violence (MASV):
Almost 40 percent of American children were direct victims of two or more violent acts, and one in ten were victims of violence five or more times.
Without a tactical comprehensive plan to end the violence of today’s youth by activelyteachingpeace the cycle of learned violence will continue permanently!!
Mindfulness as A Solution to Violence(MASV) is a strategically designed peace building program designed to finally stop the cycle of violence by teaching youth well-established alternatives to violence and self-regulating biofeedback practices.
Summary Goals
– Teach self-regulation and mindfulness skills through biofeedback technology to at-risk youth proven to reduce violent behavior and increase academic competence
– Teach Alternative To Violence (AVP) skills to at-risk youth established in Green Haven Prison over 40 years ago that have continued to positively influence inmates in hundreds of prisons. When inmates learn these skills it reduces their recidivism rates and helps offenders experience a peaceful re-entry into society.
Offering youth the opportunity to learn these skills before they become part of the juvenile system offers a huge advantage in shortening the violence cycle. Our goal is to cultivate a group of young leaders who embody Alternative to Violence and self-regulation and mindfulness skills and train them to facilitate peer leaded group intervention programs for other at-risk youth.

MASV Group Facilitators
Bethany Gonyea, MS
For the past 22 years Bethany Gonyea has been teaching biofeedback and self-regulation skills to a wide range of populations, including young inmates at Brookwood Secure Center, a facility for juvenile offenders who, while under the age of 16, committed violent felonies and were convicted and sentenced in adult criminal court. Brookwood Secure Center is the juvenile equivalent of a maximum security prison for adults. Ms. Gonyea is the founder of the Albany Peace Project which was created to make self-regulation skills available to all residents in Albany, NY. She has also presented these concepts to the Albany Police Department and established coherence based programming for the staff at Cure Violence, and is responsible for introducing and establishing comprehensive mindfulness programs in nine capital district public schools while consulting with several others, and more scheduled for the 2016-2017 school year.
Bernard Shuman
During his 22 years of service both in and out of prison, Bernard Shuman has spent thousands of hours volunteering his time to support others in turning away from crime, hatred, helplessness, and hopelessness, while urging them to turn toward faith, emotional healing, and offering assistance to others. Mr. Shuman has offered over 6000 hours of teachingAlternative to Violence practices to inmates, and holds a Gold Certificate for teaching and facilitating Alternatives to Violence, the highest certification possible. He also was trained to facilitate classes for Prisoners for AIDS Counseling and Education through Hudson Valley Community Service and ultimately enabled over 3,000 individuals to be tested for HIV infection. Mr. Shuman has an quiet impressive unassuming presence that young people admire which is why they listen intently to what he has to say.
His motto: “Don’t make the mistakes that I made.”

Exploring the Divine Masculine and the Divine Feminine Ray Crist, Founder of the Jaguar Path Shamanic and Yoga School June 8, at 7:00 PM
Good morning. I love speaking with Derek Healey, because he is so passionate about making a difference. Derek returned to college later in life and is currently working as an interfaith activist at SUNY Albany, while he carries a full course load to graduate with a double major. Derek has been meditating since he was about 10, which has dramatically shaped his life. We often talk about how meditation inspires people to want to serve. Derek’s entire life is an example of that.
In this video, Derek discusses the delicate work of being an interfaith activist. He makes it clear that working in the interfaith realm doesn’t encourage you to abandon your faith. Instead, as you affirm the faith orientation of others , your own faith is strengthened.
This year, The Albany Peace Project has a mission to expand our efforts to do a one week interfaith prayer meditation study in July when the crime is often the most pronounced. We will need an abundance of people from different faiths to become involved. Please encourage your place of worship to participate.
The Albany Peace Project has been created with the acknowledgement that not all faiths can agree on doctrine, but can agree to employ focused healing intentions to reduce human suffering.
This will be a great opportunity for people of faith to demonstrate peace through religious tolerance by contemplating peace shoulder to shoulder with people of different races, religions and ethnicities. If you are interested, please stay with us during the next 5 months as we organize.
In our interview today, Maia Boswell-Penc discusses mindfulness and environmental sustainability. You may wonder what does sustainability have to do with mindfulness? Maia helps us to see that sustainability has a everything to do with mindfulness because it allows us to slow down, to remember our humanity, and that our lives depend on the world around us. We are not “islands of one.”
The side effect of mindfulness is that it fosters great compassion and a desire to be of service to the world around us. Maia recognizes that until people sit still, and experience things as they are, both the good and the scarey, that we won’t be truly motivated to make change.
Someone sent me this tweet today: The 3 C’s of life: Choices, chances, and changes. You must make a choice to take a chance or your life will never change.
Mindfulness helps us to slow down and face where we are now, to look at thing squarely, and then choose appropriate actions to change what we realize needs attention. A side effect of practicing mindfulness is the desire to be of greater service to the world around us. People who are mindful just want to give….that is why I put all my energy into the Albany Peace Project. I know that encouraging others to sit still will inspire them to act as well.
If you would like to learn more about becoming sustainable, or you would like to talk to Maia about creating a place in Albany where sustainability practitioners can rent commercial space, please reach out to Maia at: http://retreatwithmaia.com.

Spiritual Conversations For Men Facilitated by Glenn Hogue & Tim Moon, MA – CASAC Wednesday February 3 at 7:00 PM
Most spiritual programs are predominantly attended by women, which often causes women’s issues to be the focus of such programming.
Many of us have learned that we don’t need to do life alone, but we are unsure of how to skillfully include input from Spirit, women, and other men, without loosing connection with ourselves.
Learning how to skillfully partner, listen, and still assert our truth seems to be a huge piece of the mission of our generation of men.
These two have over 55 years of combined spiritual understandings to chart this prosperous territory.
Prosperity – Living a Life You Love Living Dr. Karin Reinhold Wednesday February 10 at 7:00 PM
Can you imagine a life full of purpose and passion that allows you to naturally enrich the lives of others around you and yourself? Do you wake up each morning feeling energized and ready to start your day? Do you enjoy higher levels of vibrant health, deep love, financial abundance, and time freedom? Do you experience the confidence that you can accomplish anything that you want?
There are predictable, repeatable, spiritual and scientific method for turning dreams into reality. I first learned of these steps from Mary Morrissey – a world renowned author and coach – and her program “Dream Building”
We’ll review the 10 keys of the manifestation process, and how these are rooted in spiritual principles.
The W/Holeness Continuum: Moving from ‘Having a Hole to Fill’ to ‘Being Whole and Feeling Full’ Tim Moon Wednesday February 17 at 7:00 PM Unity Church of Albany
What are the conditions in our lives and in our thoughts about our lives that leave us feeling empty, lonely and in search of ways to fill the Hole?
Wow!).

In this talk, we can discern what you can learn from your favorite childhood fairytale, and learn that we a personal fairy tale story of our own.
Hearing Only One Voice – The Voice of Wisdom Bethany Gonyea, Founder Albany Peace Project Wednesday March 9 at 7:00 PM Unity Church of Albany
Do you ever wonder about the origin of that critical voice in your head?
Do you ever become curious about your internal dialogue….even why we have an internal dialogue? (who exactly are we talking to???)
Well, neuroscientists at Yale have discovered some startling facts about the brain regions activated while we are experiencing this internal dialogue.
This internal dialogue is vastly responsible for much of our mental health, either good or bad.
The good news is that not only are there cognitive strategies to help cope with the voice, but that skillful meditation actually silences it! Learn how to lower the volume of the critical voice, and hear only the voice of wisdom.
